INAX to Display Annual CO2 Reduction from Household Equipment

INAX Corporation, a Japanese major supplier of sanitary fixtures and building materials, announced on December 3, 2008, that the company will display the estimated reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from certain products when they are in use. These are to be shown in catalogues, in showrooms, and on the website from the spring of 2009, with the catch phrase "Reducing CO2 in daily life."

The company carried out a survey on awareness on global warming prevention, targeting 1,030 men and women nationwide. The results showed that, despite the high interest in global warming prevention, many respondents are likely to have less practical knowledge. Eighty percent of the respondents answered that CO2 emission reductions should be shown more clearly.

Based on the survey results, INAX will provide clearer information for consumers, displaying the data, comparing the amount of CO2 emitted by the latest INAX products with the products that were common around 1990. The products will reduce CO2 emissions with eco-friendly functions such as power or water saving. In case of SATIS type-W, a flushing toilet with shower toilet sheet, will release 127 fewer kilograms of CO2 annually: It will save water for cleaning equivalent to 18 fewer kilograms of CO2 as well as electricity equivalent to 107 fewer kilograms of CO2, and its antifouling system will save water equivalent to 2 fewer kilograms of CO2.

INAX has based the comparisons by complying with official standards such as the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy or the approach book for promoting household energy efficiency and home security. Unless there is a specific basis for comparison, the company will use products that were made around 1990 for baseline data.
