Websites Launched to Publicize the Green Activities of Japanese Restaurants

Japan's Gourmet Navigator Inc., which operates Gourmet Navigator, a website that offers general information on food, including restaurant guides, launched another two websites on food and the environment on December 1, 2008. One is the "Restaurants' Eco-Page," which disseminates information on the environmental activities of restaurants that have signed on to the Gourmet Navigator's green declaration. The other website, the "Gourmet Navigator's Eco-Site," introduces the activities of restaurants who have set up their own eco-page online.

While social concerns about food safety, food self-sufficiency, preservation of the global environment, etc., are growing, few opportunities are available for restaurants to provide information on their environmental activities, which is why these websites were set up.

The Eco-Site also offers a variety of information to encourage people to improve their relationship with the Earth and food they eat. The creators also hope that the information they provide helps people assess the attractiveness of restaurants using other criteria besides just their menu and ambience.

The company hopes that its newly redesigned website will contribute to promoting more eco-activities and raising awareness of environmental issues, as visitors are encouraged to think about the environment and review their lifestyle when looking for a place to eat.
