Nissan Motor Selected for Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for Second Consecutive Year

Nissan Motor Co. announced on October 15, 2008, that it had been selected for the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for the second consecutive year. Nissan and Renault were the only two companies selected from the automobile industry in fiscal 2008.

The CDLI is an annual list of companies with advanced strategies and information disclosure regarding climate change. The list is based on data collected by a non-profit organization called the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which collaborates with institutional investors to promote corporate action on climate change. From the CDP's annual survey of the climate change strategies of approximately 3,000 major companies worldwide, 67 of the top 500 global companies in terms of market capitalization (companies comprising the FT500) were selected for the newly-released CDLI.

Nissan has set three core objectives for its environmental plan dubbed Nissan Green Program 2010 aimed at achieving targets for 2010; reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing vehicle emissions to protect the atmosphere, water, and soil, and recycling resources. In its mid-term business plan Nissan GT 2012, Nissan has set a goal of becoming a leader in zero-emission vehicles, and announced plans to introduce an all-electric vehicle in 2010 in Japan and the United States, and to market it globally in fiscal 2012. The company views its selection in the CDLI as recognition for such initiatives.
