Carbon Offset Association Established

Launched by nine member companies, the Carbon Offset Association (COA) was established in September 2008. The COA recognizes carbon offsets as a useful means of voluntary efforts for greenhouse gas reductions at the global level. The COA will work to spread the use of carbon offsets in a sound manner, and aims to contribute towards quickly creating a low-carbon society by raising the environmental awareness of businesses and individuals.

The COA intends to develop the system with its philosophy of the spread and promotion of reliable carbon offsets as well as to ensure accountability to users through the cooperation with carbon-offset providers and government institutions.
