Handy Home Monitor to Help Visualize Environmental Contribution

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. of Japan announced a new monitor unit named "Eco Guide TV" on July 22, 2008. The monitor displays various household data on a TV screen, including the amount of solar power generation, electricity consumption, the volume of electricity trading, and the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from utilizing solar power systems. The monitor will be on sale on January 30, 2009 (only in Japan).

Illustrations on the screen make the numeric data easier to understand, even for children. The monitor can graph out the changes of data on energy generation and consumption in the span of a day, month or year. It can also convert the integral solar power generation in terms of environmental contribution, displaying it numerically; for example, the actual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions due to residential photovoltaic generation, as well as oil consumption savings or the equivalent number of camphor trees planted.
