Mega Solar Power Generation Plan for Sakai City Waterfront
At "Sakai No. 7-3 District Solar Power Generation Plant" (tentative name), Kansai Electric will build a solar power plant at an industrial waste landfill, and plans to have the plant online in fiscal 2011.
At "Sakai Manufacturing Complex Solar Power Generation Facility (tentative name)," Sharp and Kansai Electric will jointly install solar power facilities on Sharp's and other companies' buildings in the complex, thus providing the complex with power. Thin-film silicon solar cell modules will be produced at a new solar cell production plant scheduled to go online in March 2010. These solar power facilities are planned to be used in March 2011.
Sakai City positions this plan as a pivotal part of its "Cool City Sakai," an initiative to realize a low-carbon metropolis.
