Mazda Motor Corporation, one of Japan's leading automakers, has been introducing an environmental management system known as Eco Action 21 (EA21) into Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships since April 2008. This is to strengthen the environmental protection efforts at dealerships nationwide. The company plans to introduce EA21 into all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships and complete the acquisition of the certification by the end of fiscal 2010.

Before the official implementation, Kyushu Mazda introduced EA21 to its head office and eight outlets on a trial basis in August 2007. The company began obtaining EA21 certification on April 3, 2008, for its dealerships in Japan. Kyushu Mazda is planning to acquire certification for all 50 outlets in the area.

The company finished developing and started implementing its own environmental management system, Mazda's Environment Care Approach 21 (MECA21), to all dealerships in Japan in October 2000. Activities of MECA21 focus on dealing with regulations for appropriate treatment of end-of-life vehicles and industrial waste, as well as beautifying the environment. The company decided to apply EA21, which was developed for small and medium-sized enterprises by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, to expand its activities into energy saving. The company is planning to utilize EA21 and mitigate the environmental impact of business activities at all dealerships by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and waste generation.
