'Drawer-Style Printer' Wins Grand Prize at Eco Products Design Competition
At the first Eco Products Design Competition 2007, a work submitted under a category proposed by Epson Sales Japan Corp. - "household ink-jet printer with an upgradable mechanism and long-life exterior" - won the grand prize. Entries were received in categories proposed by participating companies, and the competition was held to select the best designs from the entries submitted. The awards ceremony was held on January 26, 2008, followed by an exhibition of award-winning designs until January 31.

The grand prize was given to a "drawer-style printer" designed by Mr. Yohei Oki of Tokyo. Its design concept was "a printer that users become attached to as a piece of furniture that fits in well with the home's decor." (Please see below for a photo of the printer.)

Aiming to develop user-friendly eco-conscious goods, this competition was sponsored by the City of Osaka, the Asia and Pacific Trade Center, the Osaka Design Center and the non-profit organization Eco Design Network. The competition invited entries of works matching the eco-themed categories proposed by high-tech companies. Selected works will be considered for commercialization. A total of 15 companies proposed eco-themed categories this year.
