Hitachi and Matsushita Release Long-life Fluorescent Lamps
Hitachi Lighting, Ltd. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. both released long-life fluorescent lamps on October 1, 2007, after undertaking their technological development.

Hitachi released new models of the "Hf86 High Power" series lighting fixture and "High Power UV" series FHF86-type fluorescent lamps. The lamps (available in neutral-white and daylight colors) have achieved a rated life of 15,000 hours, 3,000 hours longer than the company's conventional lamps. When the new lamps are used with the new fixture, they provide increased brightness (about 1.2 times higher) than a similar combination of its conventional products, and can thus replace the 400-watt mercury lamps widely used on high ceilings of factories and other facilities. The new lamps require 54 percent less energy when compared to the mercury lamps. They also light up immediately in contrast to mercury lamps and are therefore expected to improve safety as well.

Meanwhile, Matsushita has released four wattage models (Type 40, 70, 85 and 100) in its high-frequency, twin-tube circular "Twin Pa-look Premier" fluorescent lamp series (available in warm-white, natural-white and cool-white colors) with a life of 16,000 hours, which is 4,000 hours longer than its conventional lamps. Moreover, even after about 16,000 hours of use, about 80 percent of the initial brightness is maintained.
