Organic Farming Activist Chosen as One of the World's Top 100 Social Entrepreneurs

Daichi-o-Mamoru-Kai (Association to Preserve the Earth) is a Japanese nongovernmental organization that works on organic farming and environmental protection. As announced on its website, its chairperson, Kazuyoshi Fujita, was chosen as one of the top 100 social entrepreneurs who are changing the world by the Japanese edition of Newsweek in its edition of July 18, 2007.

Social entrepreneurs are people who aim to solve social problems through the use of business principles. The report carries stories of 100 leaders in various fields such as poverty relief, environmental protection and welfare.

Since it was established in 1975 when environmental pollution by pesticides became an object of public concern, the Association to Preserve the Earth has been leading the field in organic vegetable farming in Japan, aiming to solve environmental and social problems by focusing on food.

Its activities are now expanding to various fields in addition to supplying safe food such as chemical-free vegetables. Seeking wealth in the truest sense, it aims to realize a society that co-exists with the natural environment and respects all living things. With a global perspective, it also takes part in a wide-range of citizens' movements working to preserve the earth in cooperation with people all over the world.
