On June 22, 2007, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) released questionnaire results on the total area of installed rooftop greenery and wall greenery from 2000 to the end of 2006. MLIT surveyed 339 firms, including landscape construction companies, general contractors and greenery-related installers, and obtained responses from 171 companies.

According to the survey, 25.5 hectares of rooftop greenery and 3.6 hectares of wall greenery were installed in 2006, which represent two-fold and 15-fold annual increases over 2000 levels, respectively. In particular, wall greenery has soared over the last two years, with about 1.1 hectares being installed in 2004, 2.6 hectares in 2005 and 3.6 hectares in 2006.

The results also showed that the total area installed over the seven years from 2000 to 2006 was about 160 hectares for rooftop greenery and about 10 hectares for wall greenery.
