Japanese NPO Encouraging Local Aspirations for Sustainable Future
The Community Support Center for Sustainable Future is a non-profit organization (NPO) that encourages people's aspirations for sustainable communities in different sectors, such as NPOs, companies and local governments in Aichi, Mie and Gifu prefectures in the Tokai region of Japan. The center organizes seminars on subsidies for citizens' environmental movements and on fund-raising and information disclosure to improve NPO financing, management and campaigning skills. It also provides basic courses in corporate social responsibility (CSR) to promote community-based CSR activities.

The center also holds workshops on community design to explore local sustainability, inviting experts such as NPO representatives and university professors from various fields. The lecturers examine communities from the viewpoints of food, energy and population, and introduce some cutting-edge trends and efforts to realize a sustainable society. Based on these examples, both participants in workshops, the citizens and lecturers, use the opportunity to discuss concrete ways to make communities more sustainable.
