Nursery School Wins 2006 Kyoto Environmental Award
Omiya Nursery School in Kita Ward, Kyoto City, received the Grand Prize at the Kyoto Environmental Awards for fiscal 2006. The awards were created in 2003 to honor citizens and companies in Kyoto City that act to conserve the environment.

Omiya Nursery School has an active environmental education program that has included equipping the school with a "Sunshine" photovoltaic power plant and a rainwater tank; they also grow vegetables in the school garden. It has organized school events such as a bazaar and a summer festival with a "Waste Reduction" theme. Specifically, it encouraged event participants to carry their own chopsticks and food containers, promoted the use of reusable tableware, and offered only edible ice cream cone cups, etc. at its food and drink stand.
