Epson Switches to Eco-Friendly Printer Ink Cartridges and Packages
Beginning from its late December 2006 shipment, Seiko Epson Corporation has switched the packaging for the ink cartridges used in its large format ink-jet printers from conventional white cardboard to 100 percent recycled brown cardboard, and has standardized its packing specifications internationally. The gray dyed plastic used for its ink cartridge casing was also changed to color-free plastic.

Epson were able to change to a single type of package as a result of this standardization; they used to have a range of packages corresponding to the various models, ink colors and specifications of overseas markets.

By switching to color-free ink cartridges, Epson can eliminate coloring agents and reduce some of the molding processes, which will contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the production processes. At the same time, it is anticipated that the company will improve the recycling efficiency of raw materials, as color-free plastic can be used for a wider range of purposes.
