Toto Establishes 'Water Environment Fund' for Community Activities
Toto Ltd., a major Japanese manufacturer of bathroom and kitchen fixtures, established the Toto Water Environment Fund to support citizens' activities under the theme of "Let's create new lifestyle with water," and between May 20 and June 30, invited grant applications for 2005, the first-year of the fund.

The fund supports two categories of projects: hands-on activities to realize new relationship between water and lifestyles in local communities, and regional surveys of water lifestyle. Projects can be conducted on a variety of themes, such as environment, community revitalization, arts, children, education, tourism, transportation, health and welfare. The grants, 10 million yen (about U.S.$90,900) in total, are granted to about a dozen projects, each with a maximum budget of one million yen (about U.S.$9,100).

Toto believes that communities and non-profit organizations, as well as companies, should play key roles for sustainable development of society, with effective use of precious water resources. The company expects that the fund will support research for ideal relationships between water and lifestyles, and will create new systems and projects suitable for each community.
