IBM Japan Training Facility Powered by Eco Energy
IBM Japan Ltd. announced on November 15, 2004 that Amagi Homestead, the company's executive seminar for corporate clients, would now be fully powered by renewable energy (supplied indirectly).

The company, which had partly introduced renewable energy for its seminar house in Shizuoka Prefecture in 2002, recently adopted the Green Power Certification System for the facilities, entering a contract to use renewable energy to provide around one million kWh of electricity per year. This is the first attempt in Japan to use "green power" to provide 100 percent of electricity consumption at a seminar house.

The facility installed a photovoltaic generation system in August 2002, and a hybrid outdoor lighting system using solar and wind power in May 2003. The renewable energy is used for lighting the lounge. With the recent addition of the Green Power Certification System, the total power consumption at the house will be supplied by renewable energy sources.

IBM Japan is making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the company's energy-saving initiatives under the Kyoto Protocol, while at the same time promoting the use of renewable energy. The company intends the IBM Amagi Homestead to serve as a symbol of its efforts.
