Green Purchasing Network Releases Checklist on Companies
The Green Purchasing Network, a Japanese network that encourages companies, government organizations, and consumers to purchase environmentally friendly products and services, has publicized its checklist to evaluate environmental efforts by companies that supply these products and services.

The checklist is divided into three sections: (1) organizational arrangements to deal with environmental protection, (2) specific initiatives, such as waste recycling and energy-saving, and (3) disclosure and communication of environmental information. The list covers 24 items that will help users objectively assess a company's level of environmental performance. The checklist also points out the concrete key items that companies should pay attention to.

The checklist will help purchasers make an objective evaluation when choosing suppliers, and will also help suppliers to assess their own environmental performance. The GPN plans to create a database and register member companies' performance.
