Live Webcast of Int'l Conference on Genetically Modified Foods
The fourth session of Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Food Derived from Biotechnology, established by the Codex Alimentarius Commission under the joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme, was held at the International Conference Hall at "Pacifico Yokohama" in Kanagawa Prefecture from March 11 to 14, 2003. The session was broadcast live on the Internet.

This live webcast was realized by the Japan Offspring Fund (JOF), an environmental non-governmental organization, which negotiated with the Japanese government and provided the necessary equipment and funding. The JOF also participated in the session as a member of the International Association of Consumer Food Organizations, an official observer of the Codex.

The fourth session focused on drawing up guidelines on the safety assessment of foods produced using recombinant-DNA microorganisms. The JOF called on the public to watch how the session on genetically modified foods was conducted, as its outcome will have a great influence on our diet.
