J-WIND TOKIO, a Japanese company implementing wind power generation along the waterfront of Tokyo Bay in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, held a ceremony on January 17, 2003, to install rotor blades on a wind turbine at the Inner Central Breakwater reclamation area near Odaiba. This step completes the construction of the first full-scale wind turbine in the area.

Soon the second wind turbine will follow, and after a test run in February, the company plans to begin the commercial operation of these wind power generators in March.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is considering this as a promotional year and is exploring the feasibility of setting up more wind turbines in other areas. The two turbines in the Tokyo Bay area are expected to serve as a symbol of Tokyo's efforts for renewable energy. The Metropolitan Government plans to invite the public to suggest names for the turbines, illuminate them at night, and launch a streaming broadcast of the turbines on the Internet.
