Using Waste Heat from Underground Sewerage For Community Central Heating And Cooling In Tokyo
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. have jointly developed an energy-saving community central heating and cooling system that uses waste heat from the city's underground sewers. They will start to provide the service to an approximately 13-hectare redevelopment area in April. This system is the first attempt to make use of exhaust heat generated from sludge treatment facilities. It can reduce energy consumption by 60% in comparison to individual heating and cooling systems.
