NEC Sets Up New PC Repair Service
NEC and its subsidiary, NEC CustomTechnica Ltd., which designs and develops personal computers, has launched a new business for diagnosing problems and repairing personal computers and peripherals. This new company, which also handles used equipment, started operation in July. With the know-how accumulated by repairing its own products, this company will now start to repair equipment made by other manufacturers. The recycling of used personal computers will be another service offered.

With the rapid spread of personal computers and growing demand for computer servicing, as well as the new trend for collection and recycling of personal computers for home use, the company expects to see growth in its recycling and re-use business. It predicts approximately 3 billion yen (about U.S.$25 million) in sales for the first fiscal year.
