New Technology Strategy Project on Global Warming
The Council for Science and Technology Policy, under Japan's Cabinet Office (chaired by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi), decided to establish the "Technology Strategy Project on Global Warming Prevention Measures" within an expert panel for promoting strategy in priority areas. The aim of the project is, by the end of fiscal 2002, to formulate strategies on development of energy conservation, alternative energy sources, and environmentally innovative energy technologies itemized in the Guideline of Measures for Promoting Efforts to Prevent Global Warming.

They will also look ahead and discuss the feasibility of technology development beyond the first commitment period (2008-2012) of the Kyoto Protocol.
