The GIAJ and its Member Companies Reduce Electricity Use by 26% over 10-Year Period

The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) compiled the 17th issue of a report showing their environmental conservation efforts in fiscal 2011 (FY2010 data). The report was prepared based on the results of a survey conducted within the GIAJ and its 25 member companies between May 25 and July 15, 2011.

According to the report, the ratio of low-emission vehicles among their company cars exceeded 90 percent, while electricity use in FY2010 decreased by 26 percent, as compared to FY2000 levels.

Total amount of office waste from the companies achieved the target level, decreasing by 50.7 percent, as compared to FY2000 levels. Nine of the twenty-five member companies sell eco-conscious insurance products, such as automobile insurance with discounts for eco-friendly cars, automobile insurance with benefits for recycled parts users, fire insurance covering roof greening expenses, and insurance fpr soil decontamination expenses.
