Japan's First Solar-Powered Speakers Go on Sale

Keywords: Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

Landport Co. launched sales of its solar-powered speakers, called Solar Sound, in late March 2010. Landport is a Japanese company that plans, develops, and markets software and information technology products.

Solar Sound is Japan's first portable solar-powered speakers with solar panels installed on their top surface. It takes six to eight hours under sunlight to fully charge the built-in battery, and then the speaker can play for five to eight hours straight. This feature makes it easy to take anywhere without any outside power source or disposable batteries, and can be used in conjunction with an iPod or any other audio equipment. It is also rechargeable using a standard USB connection on a computer when sunlight is not available.
