The City of Kawasaki announced on December 24, 2009, that it successfully reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 512 kilograms by replacing disposable food containers with reusable ones at Todoroki Stadium in Nakahara Ward during J. League soccer club Kawasaki Frontale games from April to November 2009.

The city organized a "Carbon Challenge Todoroki" team in April 2009 jointly with Kawasaki Frontale, Fujitsu Limited's Kawasaki Factory and the city's association of parks and open spaces, aiming to cooperate closely on global warming issues. The use of reusable food containers at home games of the soccer club at Todoroki Stadium was the first step in their environmental campaign.

The self-service collection system for reusable food containers at the stadium helped to raise citizens' environmental awareness and morals. Of the 32,780 reusable plates and utensils dispensed at the 20 games from April 4 to November 28, 2009, a total of 32,299 items, or 98.5 percent, were returned.
