Softbank Mobile Reduces Use of Paper by Digitized User's Manual

Keywords: Non-manufacturing industry Reduce / Reuse / Recycle

SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp., a major mobile phone company, announced on December 4, 2009 that it will reduce paper usage by digitizing user's manuals for new models that will be put on the market after mid-December 2009.

Instead of the 140-page instruction guide, "User Guide," that was previously included in each product package, SOFTBANK MOBILE will include "Quick Start," an instruction guide with some 16 pages that introduces commonly-used and newly added functions. More detailed instructions for use and other information will be available on the company's website.

The company has been addressing environmental issues since 2006, through, for example, digitizing billing statements and application forms, using smaller packaging boxes and making the user manual thinner. The company plans to continue reducing waste and further strengthen its environmental efforts in the future.
