Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) and PSA Peugeot Citroen announced on March 2, 2009, that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding collaboration on electric vehicles (EVs) based on a vehicle named the i MiEV, currently under development by MMC.

In June 2008, the two companies started to discuss possible cooperation in the development, manufacture and use of an electric powertrain (comprising the battery, motor, inverter and recharger) for EVs. The companies have reached an understanding that will allow PSA to partner with MMC for the development of an EV for Europe based on MMC's i MiEV, to be manufactured by MMC. PSA plans to start selling the EV under Peugeot brand, in parallel with Mitsubishi's own European i MiEV, at the end of 2010 or at the very beginning of 2011.

The MMC is already conducting demonstration tests and promotional activities on the i MiEV in Japan, New Zealand, North America and across Europe, and plans to launch the EV in Japan during the summer of 2009. The company is now examining several markets, including the U.S., for the global rollout of the EV.
