Beat Communication Co., a Japanese company that produces social networking service (SNS) software, announced on October 28, 2008, the launch of an upgrade of its Eco Style software, which is designed to help people tackle environmental issues. The new Eco Style Version 1.1 calculates and displays the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reductions that companies or individuals can achieve by carrying out various environmental activities. This new function enables people to clearly visualize their reduction target so that they can work on CO2 reduction more effectively.

While the first edition of the software converted activities into eco-points, the new version converts them into the amount of CO2 emissions reduced, and then displays the result graphically. The company first set up a dedicated team to carry out research and draw up detailed calculation standards for CO2 conversion.

Various activities that reduce CO2 emissions, such as using compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs, are among the many choices pre-registered in the system. When customers submit their activities, the software stores and manages the data on the amount of CO2 emissions reduced by each activity. Customers can also check on the ranking of top users as well as rankings by group.
