Suzuki Motor Co., of Japan announced on April 8, 2008, that it has developed a Swift model for exclusive use in car-sharing, which allows the shared use of a car by several persons. Orders were accepted beginning on the same day.

Based on the Swift XG model, the automobile is installed with an IC device for personal authentication and an instrument to communicate with the control center. The company currently distributes light vehicles for car-sharing, including Wagon R and Every models. In addition, Swift models for car-sharing will be produced to meet customers' needs. The body colors of the new Swift model are silver, red, black or gray.

The car-sharing system allows people to rent cars only when they are needed, and the car owner can therefore save costs. The system also contributes to alleviating the shortage of parking spaces in urban areas and mitigates traffic jams. The Swift car-sharing model adapts the car-sharing system operated by ORIX Auto Co., the biggest car rental company in Japan, which allows companies to set up car-sharing systems.
