Japan's First CO2 Emission-Free Eco-Tours on Sale for Individual Tourists

JTB Kanto Corp., a major travel agency located in the Kanto area, started selling Japan's first CO2 Emissions-Free Tour targeting individual tourists on August 4, 2007, jointly with Hino Motors Ltd. Using Hino Motors' buses with high environmental performance, it serves as an eco-tour that has participants think about ecology while enjoying the trip. The CO2 emissions produced during the tour are offset by the renewable energy credits that the JTB Group purchases.

In response to customers' increasing environmental awareness, JTB Kanto launched the same kind of group tours for corporations and schools in April 2007 (see related website below). Another JTB Group company specializing in coach tours, JTB Sun & Sun Co., organized tours on Hino Motors' buses that were rated AA under the Tokyo Government's eco-labeling system. In view of the fact that these tours are popular among customers, and with growing demand and inquiries for eco-tours for individual tourists who do not travel with a group, JTB Kanto and Hino Motors decided to develop the new tour program for individuals.

The new tour program is a one-day trip on Hino Motors' new model "S'elega" and offers two routes with a choice of starting and ending locations in Tochigi, Gunma, and Ibaraki Prefectures in the northern Kanto area. JTB Kanto intends to further organize eco-tour programs that set off from the Tokyo area and other places, aiming to attract 1,000 customers in fiscal 2007.
