Keywords: Energy Conservation Manufacturing industry Transportation / Mobility

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced on April 19, 2007, its decision to move the launch of a next-generation 2-liter Class diesel engine forward from 2010, as originally planned, to the beginning of 2009. Currently under development, the 2-liter Class diesel engine will be assembled at its Power Train Factory in Kyoto, and marketed in other countries starting with the USA, where the demand for diesel engines is expanding.

The diesel engine, one of Mitsubishi's main products designed to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2, is being jointly developed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. The joint program will ensure the low emissions by adopting a highly efficient turbo charger, as well as improving combustion efficiency by using unique analytical technology, in order to achieve top levels of output power.

The product is expected to conform to "Euro 5," the automobile exhaust gas regulation of the European Union. Euro 5 is to be implemented in 2009 and will regulate the emission of particulate matter (PM) and NOx from automobiles more strictly than Euro 4.
