The Sharp Corporation is accelerating its shift to a distribution system that is less of a burden on the environment. By 2004, they will double their use of containers shipped by rail, emitting much less CO2 than trucks. This will account for 15% of their total distribution.
Transporting by rail container is said to emit one eighth of the CO2 emitted by a truck. With this switch, it is expected that CO2 will be reduced by about 200 metric tons per month by 2004.
