Automobiles: Hybrid Vehicles and Fuel Cell Vehicles
Toyota Motor Corporation
Toyota will present its PRIUS hybrid vehicle - one of the most fuel-efficient production vehicles in the world, capable of getting 35.5 kilometers per liter (83.5 miles per US gallon).
In September 2003, Toyota presented the second generation Prius, a total makeover of the model. This Prius is equipped with the new generation Toyota Hybrid System "THS II." Developed under the concept of "Hybrid Synergy Drive," this system makes it possible to advance both power and eco-efficiency at the same time. In addition to achieving a world-record fuel efficiency of 35.5 kilometer per liter (83.5 miles per US gallon) and realizing low emissions, the 2003 Prius, with its advanced hybrid power, has dramatically improved its appeal in the way it rides.
Mazda Motor Corporation
Mazda will exhibit its "RX-8 Hydrogen RE" that balances the needs of both the environment and the driving enthusiast.
The Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE is a test vehicle equipped with a hydrogen rotary engine. Using hydrogen for fuel, the car emits no carbon dioxide and practically no other environmental pollutants. The RX-8 Hydrogen RE is also equipped with a "dual fuel system" (hydrogen and gasoline), so it can be driven with gasoline fuel as well. Thanks to this technology, you don't have to worry about running out of hydrogen fuel while driving. During the transition period toward a hydrogen-based society, this technology will be effective in promoting the use of hydrogen fuel.
Electronic Items: Portable and Household Fuel Cells
Toshiba Corporation
Toshiba will be introducing home-use fuel cells, notebook PC fuel cells, and fuel cells for portable information devices.
Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd
Under the theme "Eco begins at home," the basic concept for this year's booth is energy and ecology. The exhibit will demonstrate eco-friendly products and environmental technology for this concept as applied to six "zones" of the home, introducing them in an easy-to-understand way.
Sanyo will exhibit the following:
- Solar power generation technologies demonstrating advanced solar cell modules, power conditioners, the merits of the HIT solar cell, and a model home equipped with a solar power generation system
- Fuel cells for household cogeneration systems
- A hybrid car battery system and the high-power nickel-hydrogen battery that is the basic component of the system
