What We Do

Spread sustainability information from Japan to the world
We deliver a variety of information about sustainability from Japan to the world on the latest initiatives, technologies, movements, trends, and actors (government, industry, academia, citizens, etc.) in Japan.

We release 30 short articles and 3 featured articles every month on this website and both weekly and monthly e-mail newsletters to 190 countries.

Learn from traditional wisdom
We cover topics relatingto Japanese tradition, wisdom, culture and craftsmanship as well as the latest trends. We also spotlight initiatives by local communities making the best use of their local resources (in every sense of the word). We call these "Japan Value" and offer them as examples in the hopes of inspiring others anywhere in the world.

Create positive energy between Japanese actors and the world
We convey your comments, encouraging words and feedback to the sources of our information--that is, to the organizations that have been covered in JFS articles. Your words encourage Japanese organizations and individuals working hard to realize sustainability in their fields. We create positive energy stream flowing and amplifying power each other throughout Japan and the world.

Help children think about the environment
We also manage an English website for children:
Kids "Create Your Future" (http://www.kidsforfuture.net).
This site is designed to encourage children all over the world to take an interest in environmental issues, think about what they can do to help, and put their ideas into action.

JFS Sustainability Indicators Project
We have been developing "JFS Sustainability Indicators" in cooperation with various stakeholders (governments, businesses, citizens and academia). After envisioning a more sustainable future, we use the Sustainability Indicators as a compass to point the way forward.

The effort to pursue sustainability is a global task, and we facilitate frank discussions by various stakeholders, trying to work across various boundaries in society.

This project is being managed and actively discussed among volunteer members.

Daiwa-JFS Sustainability College
In October 2006, we launched a four-year project called the Daiwa-JFS Sustainability College, in partnership with the Daiwa Securities Group. Its aims are to boost awareness and facilitate the actions of young students, who will be leaders in the next generation in Japan, and to promote sustainability in society overall.
Lectures are held once a month (lecture notes are available online in English).
