Donated Funds used to Install More PV Power Plants in Pre-schools

Date: 20070825
Category: Energy
Player: NGO/Citizen

Japanese

A photovoltaic (PV) power plant has been in operation at Myorin-en Nursery School in Kyoto since March 2007. The plant was jointly set up by the school and the Kyoto Green Fund, a nonprofit organization that installs PV power plants at local nursery schools and kindergartens to introduce environmental education. The plant in Myorin-en is their tenth installation.

Aiming to encourage citizens to be more energy-conscious with electricity and to promote green energy use, the Kyoto Green Fund has been raising a "Sunshine" fund from citizens and organizations to install PV power plants at local public facilities. The contributors donate money equivalent to their energy savings, and PV users are expected to donate money from the profits earned through their solar generation over a specified period.

The capacity of the plant is 10 kilowatts, and its annual production is projected to be 10,000 kilowatt-hours, which is about one-eighth of the annual electricity consumption of the school.
