Japanese

The Sea Turtle Association of Japan is a non-profit organization consisting of individuals and groups across the country that study and strive to conserve sea turtles. Since being founded in 1990, the association has accumulated comprehensive studies on the ecology and current status of sea turtles.

Major activities of the association include counting eggs at nesting sites, preserving nesting beaches, advocating against development and construction around beaches, overseas research activities, cooperating with overseas organizations, organizing Japan Sea Turtle symposiums, and the compilation, disclosure and publication of research findings. The association also conducts tracking and monitoring by attaching tags to turtles that nest on beaches or get caught in fishing nets, in order to protect individual turtles and better understand their life cycles.
